Nigerian lawyer and activist Tope Akinyode has slammed the Government of Nigeria, Lagos State in particular and Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu for its approach to the protests organised by the youths, saying President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda didn’t do as worse at that.
Recall that comedian Mr Macaroni alongside others have been arrested at the Lekki Toll Gate as they gathered for the #OccupyLekkiTollGate protests, and Rinu revealed that the Police said Sanwo-Olu ordered the arrests.
Taking to Twitter to react in a series of tweets to the arrests, Tope Akinyode said Uganda’s President, whose act was widely condemned as dictatorial, didn’t even do as much as Sanwo-Olu and Buhari are doing to their citizens. “It’s about time we challenge this horrible regime headlong. No longer afraid. #EndSARS. Yoweri Museveni of Uganda didn’t even do up to this. Buhari is killing peaceful protesters & demonising critics”, he began.
“This same regime is paying terrorists & granting them amnesty. The world needs to know. Mr Macaroni is more valuable to Nigeria’s democracy than the bandits in government. The Nigerian Police should immediately release all the arrested #Lekkitollgate protesters now. Free legal aid to all the victims of #OccupyLekkiTollGate & #EndSARS protests. Tweet @ me or send a DM. Full blown dictatorship is upon us, Nigerians must resist this”, he added.
He then recall how Sanwo-Olu had denied having prior knowledge of the soldiers’ presence at the toll gate back in October when the Lekki killings took place, saying he is doing all of these including the new arrests to protect Tinubu’s livelihood.
“Sanwo Olu lied that he didn’t have prior knowledge of soldiers’ presence at the #Lekkitollgate. 4 months after, this same man mobilized the Nigerian Police Force & Black Maria to clamp down on harmless protesters in order to protect Tinubu’s livelihood“, he wrote.
